The Isle of Skye - The Misty Isle
November 29, 2010
Our journey to the Isle of Skye was beset with difficulties, and even upon arrival we found it difficult to enjoy because of the terrible weather. Skye certainly demonstrated its nickname, “The Misty Isle”. It was almost impossible to see more than a fifty feet beyond the winding, barren roads. We stopped for a late lunch in Portree, Skye’s largest village, with a population of about 3,000 people. This functional settlement has a small, but lovely, working harbor, and a tidy main square on the hillside above it.
Finding the rain and mist almost impossible to travel in, and the scenery obscured, we decided to return to our hotel at Kyleakin near the Skye bridge to relax. Fortunately, our room afforded us a nice view of the tiny harbor and the ruins of Castle Moil across the bay.
