Lord of the Rings
January 11, 2010
My husband and I recently decided to rewatch all of the Lord of the Rings trilogy again, extended edition, of course. It's been some years since we've done so, and we were both surprised again by how good the movies are. They have always been listed near the top of our favorites, but having been so long, we'd forgotten just how much we liked them. At three to four hours a movie for the extended edition, they are not exactly light fair to be popped into the DVD player at anytime, and watching all three in a row takes a concerted effort. Years ago we tried to do this all in one day and discovered how daunting it is. Three consequtive nights is much easier. I've enjoyed rediscovering the magic of the story again and the cinematic genius it took to make it. My husband and I have laughed as we looked forward to favorite scenes, such as when the ent with it's head on fire dips it into the water to put it out after they break the dam, and chuckled as we rehashed memories. Neither of us will ever forget at the end of the The Fellowship of the Ring how a man in the audience of the theater asked in outrage, "that's it?!" His friend had to explain that it was the first movie in a trilogy and the fellow seemed horribly put out by the fact. |
