MANor Candy Monday - Old Sarum
March 3, 2014
This week's MANor Candy is a true ruin - Old Sarum, located just outside of Salisbury in Wiltshire, England. Old Sarum was an Iron Age hill fort, and the location of the first settlement in Salisbury. A castle and cathedral were both originally built on the site, but in 1219 the cathedral was demolished and moved 2 miles south to its current location in Salisbury. There are clear views of the new cathedral from the summit of Old Sarum. It is a fascinating old site, with crumbling walls and spectacular views. On the road between Salisbury and Stonehenge, it's a perfect spot to stop and have a picnic.
