Bake It Up
December 18, 2009

About a week before Christmas each year I get in the mood to do some serious baking. There’s just something about the holidays that makes me want to fill the house with the aroma of cookies and gingerbread, and fill my mouth with good eats. And then share them. Normally the goodies get dragged over to my parents’ house and devoured by my family. It makes me feel good when someone ooo’s or ah’s over a truffle or buckeye ball I made. Especially when I consider baking to be the only talent I have in the kitchen. My cooking is never a disaster, but I rarely enjoy it or get creative. However, when it comes to sweets and desserts, I shine.

This year my sister and I are having a baking day. She has the same compulsion I do to make sweets, so we’re teaming up. So far, our baking menu includes: chocolate chip cookies, fudge, puppy chow, pretzel bark, peanut brittle, almond truffles, peppermint truffles, coconut cake, and peanut butter chocolate pie. An ambitious agenda, but an entirely worthy cause – our stomachs, and that of our loved ones.

Do you have any special Christmas treats you make every year? Or do you prefer to let someone else do the baking?
