California Dreamin' - Part 3
September 10, 2012
On our seventh and final day on the Pacific Coast Highway in California, we woke early in Santa Cruz, and after a delicious breakfast at our B&B set off on an inland detour. A short drive up into the mountains about twenty miles from the coast took us to Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. We hiked the loop of the Redwood Grove Trail, and marveled at the size of the Redwood trees. Though not comparable in size to the Redwoods in northern California, some of which are so large it's possible to drive a car through them, the Redwoods at Henry Cowell SP were still tall enough and wide enough to impress me. I've seen big trees in my lifetime, but none nearly this massive. They were beautiful and inspiring.
After our hike, we drove back to the coast and stopped in at Natural Bridges State Beach on the outskirts of Santa Cruz. Though unable to get a satisfactory enough view to see straight through the rocky arch, we were still able to enjoy the interesting landscape.
The drive from Santa Cruz to Half Moon Bay was fairly uneventful, but still quite beautiful. Lovely panaromas of the rocky coast and the crashing Pacific Ocean filled the vistas to our left, while hills, mountains and colorful vegetation stretched to the right. Upon our arrival in Half Moon Bay, we checked into our hotel and then went to check out the quaint, little town. After a scrumptious dinner, we purchased a massive chocolate brownie from the bakery for a steal and went back to out hotel to relax on our balcony and enjoy the gorgeous evening.
